Invitation card for Marcel Broodthaers' very first exhibition, at the Galerie Saint-Laurent in Brussels from Friday, April 10 to 25 [1964]. Layout by Corneille Hannoset, printed on both sides of a sheet of glossy paper from previously printed fashion magazines. Format : 25,2 x 33,5 cm (central fold, small stain in the upper part). Text : "I too have wondered if I could not sell something and succeed in life. It has been a while since I have been good at anything. I am forty years old... The idea finally crossed my mind to invent something insincere and I immediately set to work. At the end of three months, I showed my production to Ph. Edouard Toussaint, the owner of the Galerie Saint-Laurent. But it's art, he said, and I would gladly exhibit it. Okay," I replied. If I sell something he'll take 30%. They say that's the normal rate.
