GIBSON (Ralph). Nude. Interview by Eric Fischl. Cologne, Tas - Lot 460
GIBSON (Ralph). Nude. Interview by Eric Fischl. Cologne, Taschen, 2009, large folio (45 x 33.5 cm), full black silk publisher with photograph, deluxe publisher's box, original cardboard (some slight marks on the case). First edition. 1/200 first edition, signed by the photographer, including a signed silver print. Ralph Gibson (Los Angeles, 1939) was Dorothea Lange's assistant in the early 60's before becoming Robert Frank's assistant. He briefly worked for the Magnum agency, and carried out commissions for fashion, advertising and publishing, before abandoning all commercial work in 1970. The fragmented body of the naked woman and the hands return like a leitmotif. In uninhabited and smooth spaces where time is suspended, these bodies in sometimes lascivious poses, recall surrealist images. A certain eroticism often accompanies them.
