Autograph letter signed, [addressed to Madeleine Bourdouxhe]. 1 f. 4°, folded in 4, in an envelope stamped on March 3, 1956. Simone de Beauvoir apologizes for not being able to respond favorably to her invitation. Madeleine Bourdouxhe is a Belgian writer born in Liege on September 25, 1906 and died in Brussels on April 16, 1996. In 1927, after studying philosophy at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, she married the mathematician Jacques Muller. In 1934, she met Marcel Lecomte and Camille Goemans. In 1935, she began writing "Vacances", her first novel, which remained unpublished, and then "La Femme de Gilles", which was published in 1937 by Gallimard on the enthusiastic advice of Jean Paulhan.
