History of O. With a preface by Jean Paulhan. Sceaux, Jean-Jacques Pauvert, 1954, 8°, [4]-XX-[4]-242-[8] p., title in red and black, br. Second edition published the same year as the original, printed at 1000 copies on laid paper (fictitious mention of 4th edition). "One knows what hassles were caused to the publisher and the preface writer by the judicial investigation opened on the subject of this work, considered as outrageous. The judge in charge of investigating the case could not get Paulhan, who had served as intermediary between the author and Mr. Pauvert, to let him know the address or the real identity of Mrs or Miss Pauline Réage. Finally, there was no trial, but the case was definitively closed only in 1959" (Pia, 634-635). Nice copy.
