"Sélection". Chronique de la vie artistique et littéraire.
N° 9/10 (2nd series), N° 1-10 (3rd year), N° 1-10 (4th year), N° 1-10 (5th year), N° 1-10 (6th year). Brux, 1922-1927, 40 vol. small 4°, br. (most of the spines broken, crumbly paper). First edition. In the autumn of 1920, Paul-Gustave Van Hecke and André De Ridder founded the Sélection gallery, which they defined as a "Atelier d'art contemporain", a center whose activities revolve around new art. To support this mission, they publish the periodical "Sélection", Chronicle of the artistic life during seven years. This monthly magazine was above all an important forum for the promotion of the second group of Sint-Martens-Latem in particular, with Constant Permeke, Gustave De Smet, Frits Van den Berghe, and of expressionism in general. During the first years, Sélection was hostile to abstract art and essentially defended an art form in which the perceptible and visible reality was still recognized. From 1923 on, the field of interest extended to French Cubism, the Dada movement and Surrealism. Nice set.
