DUCHAMP (Marcel).
Rotoreliefs. Cologne, Gebr. König Postkartenverlag, 1987, 6 cardboard discs printed in color offset on both sides, all housed in a printed tracing paper sleeve. Published in 1987, this is a facsimile reproduction of the multiple "Rotoreliefs" created in 1935. Marcel Duchamp published Rotoreliefs, a set of six double-sided discs intended to be spun on a turntable at 40 to 60 rpm. With Man Ray, they filmed the first versions of the rotating discs for the short film "Anemic Cinema". A manifestation of Duchamp's interest in optical illusions and mechanical art, the two-dimensional Rotoreliefs create an illusion of depth when spun at the right speed.
