CHAISSAC (Gaston).
Autograph letter signed, dated October 22, 1961 and addressed to a "dear friend". 1 sheet 4° recto/verso, mounted in a wooden frame. In this letter, the artist talks about the deterioration of one of his works: "this new annoyance can only be a detrimental shock to me much greater than the loss of these objects"; he evokes his latest creations: "I painted lately on canvas. Several of these paintings are considered good and finished by a great collector, although the drawing is not circled in my usual way and the whites of the background layer sometimes appear". He finally ends his letter with a postscript illustrated with two small figures: "the best solution would be for me to go and paint in Italy. And may my next exhibition be even richer in the unexpected". Gaston Chaissac (1910-1964) is a French painter and writer-scholar. He is known for his numerous correspondences, but also texts and poems published in the NRF or in Les Cahiers de la Pléiade.
