Shoowa fabric - Set including 1 Shoowa fabric with applied p - Lot 510
Shoowa fabric - Set including 1 Shoowa fabric with applied patterns (size : 65 x 50 cm), the reference book "Dessin Shoowa" by Serge Meurant (Brux., Crédit communal, 1986, 4°, 206 p., publisher's cloth, jaq.), 3 exhibition catalogs entitled "Analogies" linking the traditional Kuba embroideries of Kassaï with the works of contemporary artists (exhibitions organized by the Maison de la Culture in Namur between 1991 and 1994), as well as the invitation to the first of these exhibitions and the interior poster of the Art Salon. A Kuba sub-group, the Shoowa are best known for the cloth they wore for certain rituals. However, the use of raffia cloth was not only for clothing. They were not only a testimony to the social, political and religious status of their owners, but also served as a means of exchange. These fabrics are characterized by the absence of naturalistic representation. Beautiful set.
