Bruges.- Album pittoresque de Bruges,
or Collection of the most beautiful views and principal monuments of this city, and accompanied by a historical text by Octave Delepierre. Bruges, Buffa, 1837-1840, 2 volumes bound in 1 large vol. in-folio (38,5 × 30 cm), 124 p. (continuous pagination), 20 colored plates including the one on the cover (for the first part) and 5 lithographs in black including 4 on Chine appliqué (for the second part), brown half-chagrin with corners, smooth spine titled and ornamented throughout, illustrated cover (spine faded and rubbed, pages of the illustrations browned, a few russets at the end of the volume). First edition. Topographical albums devoted to cities were in vogue in the late 1830s. Our complete work in 2 volumes should have more than 50 lithographs in total according to Van der Marck, but the copies are never complete. Volume I is illustrated by Borremans after drawings by Tessaro; the second volume is drawn and lithographed by Ghémar and Manche.
