Almanach des gourmands. The "Almanach des... - Lot 73 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
Almanach des gourmands. The "Almanach des gourmands" is the first gastronomic guide and the first work of culinary popularization. From 1803 to 1812, Grimod de La Reynière delivered to his readers a set of works that were both practical and encyclopedic on the culinary art. After the French Revolution, gastronomy was transformed. With the birth of restaurants, good food was democratized and was no longer simply reserved for the nobility. Grimod de La Reynière offered this new public the keys to understanding gastronomy. Between 1803 and 1812, Grimod published eight volumes of his Almanach. He wandered the streets of Paris in search of the best artisans, providing invaluable descriptions of products and delivering practical or surprising advice, such as how to make monstrous eggs or how to dye live crayfish red. Grimod also sets up a tasting panel to rate the restaurant owners' dishes. (Menu fretin, gastronomy editor).
