STEUDEL (E.) and HOCHSTETTER (Ch.-F). Enumeratio plantarum germaniae helvetiaeque indigenarum seu prodromus, quem synopsin plantarum germaniae helvetiaeque edituri botanophilisque adjuvandam commendantes. Stuttgardtiae et Tubingae, sumptibus J.G. Cottae, 1826, 8°, VIII-352 p., contemporary green marbled boards, spine decorated with a finial. First edition (Pritzel, 8963). Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel, born on May 30, 1783 in Esslingen and died on May 12, 1856 in Mannheim, was a German physician and botanist. Steudel graduated in medicine in 1805 from the University of Tübingen and moved to Esslingen to practice medicine. He met Christian Ferdinand Friedrich Hochstetter, with whom he founded in 1825 the botanical distribution and exchange society "Württembergischer botanische Reiseverein", which later became "Unio itineraria". The purpose of this society was to finance the exploratory and collecting trips of botanists by selling their collections to botanical institutes and even to private individuals who were engaged in the study of herbaria.
