DESORMEAUX. History of Louis de Bourbon, second of the name, Prince de Condé, first prince of the blood, nicknamed the Great. Decorated with plans of sieges and battles. Second edition, revised and corrected. Paris, Desaint, 1768 (1 and 2) and 1769 (3 and 4), 4 vol. in-12, 480, 456, 432 and 525-1 bl. p., 12 folding plates. Full contemporary marbled calf, spine with decorated nerves. A fine copy. Louis II de Bourbon-Condé, known as le Grand Condé, first designated by the title of duc d'Enghien, born on Sept. 8 in Paris and died on Dec. 11, 1686 in Fontainebleau, prince of French blood, cousin of Louis XIV, and one of the best generals of the Grand Siècle. Engaged at the end of the Thirty Years' War as a general in the French army, he became famous throughout Europe at the age of 21 after the battle of Rocroi (1643), during which he inflicted a severe defeat on the Spanish army. He then became one of the main leaders of the Fronde against Mazarin in the early 1650's, and then served Spain for a while, before returning to France, pardoned by Louis XIV.
