"Henry Valensi invites you to come and see his pictorial sco - Lot 771
"Henry Valensi invites you to come and see his pictorial scores exposed with their studies - from December 5 to 20, 1929, Galerie Danthon, 29 rue La Boétie". Exhibition catalog. P., 1929, 8° booklet, 3 plates, stapled, illustrated cover. Introduction by Rob[ert] Mallet-Stevens. Born in Algiers, Henry Valensi (1883-1960) marked his era while escaping the conventional schemes of art history. Already an active member of the Groupe de Puteaux, he exhibited in 1912 alongside Marcel Duchamp, Fernand Léger and also the cubists Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger at the mythical Section d'Or, then he deepened his personal research to found Musicalism in 1932. At the confluence of Cubism and Futurism, Valensi's musicalism, at one time described as Orphism by Apollinaire, is defined as a painting to be heard. With Leopold Survage, Ernst Klausz or Frantisek Kupka, he is one of the pioneers of this musicalist adventure. Rare.
