KLEIN (Yves).
Les Fondements du judo. P., Grasset, 1954, 8°, br., illustrated jacket, uncut. First edition printed on coated paper. During the summer of 1952, Yves Klein made contacts in Japan and embarked for Yokohama where he arrived on September 23. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Tokyo and enrolled at the Kodokan Institute, the most prestigious judo center. He lived in Japan for 15 months, dividing his time between the Institute and the French lessons he gave to American and Japanese students. During this stay, he prepares a book on judo with the aim of importing the spirit and technique of Japanese kata to Europe. Shortly before his return, he obtained the 4th dan of judo and thus reached the best European level. This judo treatise is illustrated with photographs showing Yves Klein performing katas with other judokas, including Igor Correa. Nice copy.
