SCHLOBACH (attribué à Willy). "Landscape with Trees" (1903). Oil on panel, dated and monogrammed in the lower right corner. Size of the support and subject : 38 x 51 cm (traces of wear on the edge). Willy Schlobach (1864-1951) trained at the Brussels Academy (1878-1880). In 1883, when he was not yet twenty years old, he co-founded the movement "Les XX". In 1887, he stayed in London, where he met William Turner and James Abbott Mc Neill Whistler, who had a strong influence on his work. London inspired him in different works called "London: Hantises". In 1889, he moved away from impressionism and sought contact with symbolist artists and the Pre-Raphaelites. He painted mainly landscapes, figures, portraits and still lifes. His landscapes show influences from Japanese art. He stayed in London several more times. He was sometimes compared to Ensor, Finch, Toorop and Vogels.
