vendôme (duchesse Henriette de). - Lot 172
vendôme (duchesse Henriette de). Our trip to Africa 1920 1921. [P., Gazette des Beaux-Arts, 1928], 4 vols. 8°, in sheets, illustrated covers filled (covers and edges browned). Limited edition of 300 copies. Non-numbered copy on laid paper enriched with a dedication from Sister Marie-Joséphine of Belgium: "(...) in memory of the friendship / of my beloved sister, the Duchess of / Vendôme / Princess Henriette / of Belgium (...)". Facsimile of the travel diary written by the Duchess of Vendôme during a five month trip to North Africa: Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco. Born a princess of Belgium, the Duchess of Vendôme was the sister of King Albert I. She married Emmanuel d'Orléans, Duke of Vendôme in 1896. The picturesque description of the places is accompanied by remarkable reproductions of watercolors and drawings by the author, illustrating landscapes and scenes of daily life, which are mixed with the text in a particularly successful layout.
