VULLIAMY - PONGE (Francis). The shrimp in all its states. 10 original burins and small culs-de-lampe printed in red by Gérard Vulliamy. P., Vrille, 1948, small 4°, in sheets, printed cover, folder and slipcase. (cover heavily browned, some pages slightly yellowed). Original edition of 330 copies, numbered 1/300 on Marais vellum. In 1932, Gérard Vulliamy joined the Abstraction-Création group and became friends with Jacques Villon, Robert Delaunay, Auguste Herbin and Piet Mondrian. In 1933, he held his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Pierre. He also practised drawing and engraving with Stanley Hayter, then with Albert Flocon, and in 1935 exhibited with Stanley Hayter's Atelier 17, still at the Galerie Pierre. Having become close to the surrealists around 1934, Vulliamy took part in the 1938 International Surrealist Exhibition at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
