Paris, Le Livre, 1924, 8°, 73 p., bound in full green morocco, pinched spine, author's name and title in gilt, inner boards in brown morocco surrounded by a gilt fillet and decorated with a mosaic of light brown morocco scrolls with in the upper part of each inner board an original copperplate of one of the illustrations inlaid and surrounded by a cold fillet, black moire endpapers, gilt edges, covers and spine preserved, flap folder in half morocco with bands and case lined with the same (binding signed Canape and Corriez, 1929). First edition decorated with 40 black etchings in the text by André-Édouard Marty including an engraved title, a full-page table of poems, 23 chapter headings (vignettes) and 15 culs-de-lampe. Limited edition of 350 copies. 1/15 Chine, 2nd paper after 10 Japon with suite on Chine, with a suite on Japon. This is the first book illustrated by André-Édouard Marty, whose sketches were conceived between 1914 and 1918 in the trenches. The book is bound with: 1 autograph letter dated Oct. 20, 1924 and signed by André-Édouard Marty to a "Dear Friend", 2 pages 8° where the artist declares his satisfaction: he was paid by the percentage and everything was sold... ; an original drawing heightened with colors of the same (13 x 9 cm), dedicated in pencil to his friend Gonot, signed and dated June 1925 ; the prospectus of the book (4 pages) and the extract of the catalog of the publisher (4 pages). Exceptional copy.
