HUMBOLDT (Alexandre de).
Correspondence with François Arago (1809-1853). Published with a preface and notes by Dr. E.-T. Hamy. P., E. Guilmoto, [1908], in-12, 377 p., burgundy half-percaline, smooth spine titled in gold, cover cons. (small restoration p. 373). Rare first edition. Endowed with a vast intelligence, an insatiable curiosity, a physical constitution "of fine steel", the Prussian baron Friedrich Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt is the type of the complete scholar. In 1809, he met François Arago, fifteen years his junior, with whom he sympathized and who remained close to him until the end of his life. They did experiments together at the Observatory.
