P., Emile Testard, 1889, 2 strong vol. 4°, half brown morocco with corners, smooth ornamented and mosaic spine, author, title, tomesaison and date gilt, gilt head, cover and spine cons., monogram stamp, case (small snag in head and tail of spine of 1st vol., cases rubbed) (binding signed H. Blanchetière). Special edition at 1000 copies on luxury paper. 1/200 Japon including a double suite of engravings. Copy enriched with the author's signature on a blank watermarked bill placed at the head of the volume. Very beautiful edition illustrated with 10 out-of-text compositions by Luc-Olivier Merson, etched by Géry-Bichard, and numerous vignettes in text. Beautiful copy finely bound by Henri Blanchetière. The latter worked for Lortic, Kieffer and Bretault, and married the daughter of the latter. He settled down by buying the Monneret house around 1903, then took over the workshop of his father-in-law in 1906.
