WIERIX (Ieronymus) or Jerome Wierix (Antwerp, 1553-1619), Flemish engraver of the Wierix family. He made engravings after other famous engravers, including Albrecht Dürer. Exceptional set bound identically in two large 8° volumes in full brown morocco, boards framed with a double cold fillet, a gilt fillet with a gilt motif in the corners, a cold scroll framed with a double cold fillet and a gilt fillet, spine with naves decorated with gilt fillets and a gilt motif in the center, gilt title, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt lace inside (bindings signed De Samblanx) gathering 138 engravings pasted on strong paper and framed with a black fillet + 7 free and 122 engravings presented in the same way + 3 free, that is to say 270 engravings by Jérôme Wierix 270 including different states, for ex. in the 2d vol. about twenty Christ on the cross. According to the collector Vol. 1 includes: 1. the beautiful suite of La Vie de la Vierge (in 32 pieces, of which 3 are in the 2d vol.). 2. The beautiful suite of the childhood of Jesus (in 13 pieces). 3. A set of 93 miscellaneous pieces in very fine print, including: - Two Annunciations. - A holy family. - A beautiful allegory of the Cross. - A beautiful Saint Ludivine (112). - A Mater dolorosa. The vol. 2 includes : 1. the small Passion (title and 16 plates) in double state. 2. 4 specimens of the medium Passion 3. 3 specimens of the large Passion 4. 4 specimens of the suite: Crucifixion. 5. 73 miscellaneous pieces often in very good condition. 6. 3 free. At the end of the volumes, the collector has established in pencil a table of concordance with Alvin, Catalogue raisonné de l'œuvre des trois frères Jan, Jérome et Antoine Wierix (1866).
