MOREAU DE SAINT-MÉRY (Louis-Élie). De la... - Lot 18 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
MOREAU DE SAINT-MÉRY (Louis-Élie). De la danse. Parma, Bodoni, 1803, in-18, 124 x 85: (4 ff.), 61-1 blank p., full contemporary brown calf, boards framed with a gilt garland, smooth spine ornamented, title-piece, old stamp of ownership to the title (qq. traces of wear, inside very fresh). Second edition given by Bodoni of this rare work by Moreau de Saint-Méry, dedicated to the Creoles (Sabin, 50569). It is a reprint of an article from the author's work entitled Répertoire des notions coloniales published in 1796. It praises the music and dance that was practiced in the French West Indies and shows the analogy between colonial dances and those of the Africans and especially the Greeks. The printing of this opuscule, realized by the master printer Giambattista Bodoni (1740-1813), is remarkable. The first edition dates from 1801.
