[MANUCCE (Paul) ed.] Epistolae clarorum virorum,... - Lot 17 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
[MANUCCE (Paul) ed.] Epistolae clarorum virorum, selectae quam plurimis optimae, ad indicandam nostrorum temporum eloquentiam. Venice, Domenico and John Baptist Guerra, 1568, in-12, 180-(4) f., full old vellum with small flaps, remains of cords (missing in the white margin of the 2nd f., small lacks to the binding). Paolo Manuzio first published this collection of Latin letters by various authors in 1556 as a model book designed to halt the advance of the vernacular and the "ruina dell'eloquenza romana. Paolo Manuzio, who published his own extensive Latin epistolary in 1558, was considered by his contemporaries not only an important editor, but also a great humanist whose Latin prose was praised and appreciated throughout Europe.
