DI GIOVANNI (Giovanni). L'Ebraismo della... - Lot 11 - Les ventes Damien Voglaire SRL
DI GIOVANNI (Giovanni). L'Ebraismo della Sicilia. Palermo, Giuseppe Gramignani, 1748, 4°, XX-424 p., vignette on the title, a header, a lettering, full contemporary vellum, smooth spine, gilt title (beginning of the front spine split). The first study on the Jews of Sicily. Jewish settlement on this island in the southwest of the Italian peninsula began as early as the Second Temple period. Communities flourished in the countryside as well as in cities such as Palermo, Cantane and Messina. Since Sicily was a possession of the Spanish crown, the Alhambra decree of 1492 effectively ended Jewish settlement. Jews were officially invited to return in 1740. Nice copy.
