[TCHOUDY (Louis Théodore, baron de). L'Étoile flamboyante, ou La Société des Francs-Maçons, considérée sous tous les aspects. A l'Orient, chez le Silence, [1776?], 2 vol. in-12 bound in one, frontispiece, [4]-258 and [2]-25 p., modern binding in grey-green chagrin, spine ribbed, gilt triangle covering the binding, the upper corner ending in the first box. In his "Étrennes au pape des Francs-Maçons vengés" (1752) and in his "Vatican vengé", the Chevalier de Lussy violently attacks the successive papal condemnations against Freemasonry. But this author remains most famous under his original name: Louis Théodore, baron de Tchoudy and by his essential work, which has become very rare today despite about eight editions. He develops his views on masonry which would be of alchemical essence. The second part of his work containing "the statutes of the society of unknown philosophers" and especially the "catechism drawn from the new light of the Cosmopolitan (1691) and in The light coming out of darkness (1686) remains a monument that will not leave unaffected Stanislas de Guaita and his secretary, Oswald Wirth. But let us leave the word to Eliphas Levi: "the Hermetic catechism contained in this work and which we indicate to the wise cabalists, contains all the principles of the Great Work in a manner so clear and so satisfactory that one must absolutely lack special intelligence of occultism not to arrive at the truth by reading it...
