MONTHERLANT (Henry de). An adventure in the Sahara. Coloured woodcuts by Pierre-Eugène Clairin. S.l., on the presses of Jean-Gabriel Daragnès (for the XXX of Lyon), 1951, 4°, leaves, filled cover, folder and slipcase. (spine of the folder faded, case damaged, pale russeting on the edges). Limited edition of 140 copies on Angoumois laid paper. Pierre-Eugène Clairin (1897-1980) is a French painter, illustrator, engraver and resistance fighter. In 1919, he met Maurice Denis and Édouard Vuillard, who introduced him to engraving and lithography. In 1927, he signed a contract with the Bernheim gallery, which exhibited him in New York. From 1929 to 1934, he stayed in Morocco and in the South of Algeria. He will return regularly to Algeria after 1945 / IDEM. The dead Queen. Drama in 3 acts. Illustrations by Victor Stuyvaert (10 color compositions including the frontispiece; the text and the plates are framed with gilded illuminations).
