P., Veuve Girod, [1888], 6 fasc. in-folio, in sheets, cover printed (some annotations in pencil, slight traces of use). First edition. This complete suite of 6 scores for song and piano or piano alone, includes: "C'est l'extase", "Il pleure dans mon coeur", "L'Ombre des arbres", "Paysages belges: Chevaux de bois", "Green" and "Spleen". In 1884, Claude Debussy won the Prix de Rome and began his traditional stay at the Villa Medici the following year. On his return to Paris, he led a bohemian life and frequented the fashionable salons, including Mallarmé's "mardis". He rubbed shoulders with many poets, including Paul Verlaine.
