D'ORGEIX (Christian).
"Composition" (ca 1953). Gouache and ink on paper, mounted under a white mat and gilded wooden frame. Size of frame: 42,5 x 35,5 cm; subject: 21,4 x 15,7 cm. Christian de Thonel d'Orgeix (1927-2019), who moved to Paris in the late 1940s, was a French painter close to surrealism. He worked with Hans Bellmer and assisted him in the creation of his second Poupée (1949). This meeting was decisive because it allowed Christian d'Orgeix to meet the surrealists in Paris. He also met Anna de Noailles and Henri-Pierre Roché. He befriended Wols and Sam Francis and became the mentor of Konrad Klapheck. He was also close to Roberto Matta and Simon Hantaï, his former roommate. He participated in documenta II (1959) and documenta III (1964) in Cassel, as well as in the "Phases" group.
