BELLOC (Auguste). - Lot 435
BELLOC (Auguste). "Nude at the Meridian (ca 1855). Print on salted paper, enhanced with watercolours, mounted on cardboard. Dim. subject : 15,5 x 20,5 cm (bevelled corners). Auguste Belloc (1800-1867) worked as a miniaturist and watercolorist before discovering photography. His preference was for the wet colodion process, about which he published a treatise in 1853. The following year, he became a founding member of the French Society of Photography. A pioneer of the female nude in this new medium, his prints were a source of inspiration for Courbet's paintings.
