"PLANTÉ, Francis (1839-1934) was a French pianist, nicknamed "the god of the piano", he was one of the very first musicians to be recorded. Arthur Rubinstein, in Mes longues années, remembers with respect the ardour of his playing. Autograph letter signed, dated 30 Jan. 1905, unidentified correspondent, 4 pages in-12. Obliged to refuse the invitation but the health of one of his grandsons prevents him from travelling. "This situation of worries and uncertainties has prevented me from making my artistic plans for this winter, and only yesterday I had the regret to confirm to the great artist Ysaye [Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931) Belgian violinist, composer, concert organizer, pedagogue and conductor] my impossibility of going to his concerts in Brussels in April, where he had conceived for a year the project of reuniting me with his other friend Raoul Pugno" [(1852-1914) French composer and pianist. In 1897, he toured the United States, England, Germany, Italy, Austria, Russia... with Ysaÿe, his brother at heart and in art, with whom he played Beethoven's sonatas in particular.]
