GREEN, Julien (1900-1998). Correspondence to Richard HEYD, o - Lot 99
GREEN, Julien (1900-1998). Correspondence to Richard HEYD, of the publishing house Ides et Calendes in Neuchâtel, comprising 14 signed autograph letters from June 7, 1947 to October 27, 1954. Shows a beautiful friendship and reveals a lot of information about published and forthcoming books.- 1. 07.06.1947, autograph letter signed, 1 ½ page in-12, face of envelope preserved. Gives reasons for his delay in a reply to her solicitations. Moreover, all his time is taken up by a film on the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola. His novel project is coming out in less than a month, he will not fail to send him a copy.- 2. 15.09.1947, autograph letter signed, 2 pages large in-8, front of envelope kept. Green is busy with some menial tasks and has meanwhile seen Heyd in Neuchâtel. He thinks a lot about the text he will be able to give him.- 3. 07.10.1947, autograph letter signed, 3 pages in-8, front of envelope kept. The script is coming to an end and he is thinking about the book he will give her. Why not the volume of his diary 1942-1948 for which he has signed a contract with the Salon Carré publishing house in Paris, with illustrations by Bérard. The text was submitted, as were the illustrations, but he was told that the book crisis meant that he could not afford to pay the 1,500 francs in royalties. Why not to the Ides et Calendes? 4. 22.10.1947 (postmark), autograph letter signed, 1 page in-8, front of envelope retained. Accepts the reasons for the refusal of the volume of the journal.- 5. 5. [April 1948], autograph letter signed, 1 page in-8, front of envelope retained. Includes late reply due to painful surgery. Green is bothered by a note passed in the newspapers by Gide. He does not want to meet him, but does not want his silence to be considered as a neglect of heart because he loves him very much.- 6. 23.07.1948, autograph letter signed, 1 page in-4 on letterhead of the Savoy Hotel in Merano. He was hoping to pass through Switzerland, but a relative demands that he wait for her at the station for her arrival. 7. 23.02.1929, autograph letter signed, 2 pages in-4, front of envelope preserved. He had news through Gide but is glad to have news. "Thank you also for all the kind things you tell me about this hastily written article on poor Berard. "He refuses any proposal for an exchange. Heyd only has to list what he wants: "I will gladly give you the books you need, provided they are not too old, as I have no copies of my early novels left. "Etc.- 8. 22.11.1949, autograph letter signed, 2 pages in-4, front of envelope retained. A society of bibliophiles offers him to publish 50 copies of four articles published in the Figaro, illustrated by Remon. He replied that he would consult him since he had intended these texts for him. He saw Gide "admirable of youth and gaiety".- 9. 10.12.1949, autograph letter signed, 1 ½ page in-4, face of envelope retained. Thanks for the books received. Would like to be longer, but is caught up in writing a novel. Gives bibliophiles the beginning of childhood memories that appeared in Crossroads. Thanks Jacqueline, Heyd's wife, for what she says about his diary. Finally: "I like these letters of Proust's very much, in spite of his horrifying affectations which spoil his correspondence for me a little. "Your letter flooded me with grief. "He writes. Why? Because Gabay didn't get his prize. What if he had died? ".- 10. 05.03.1951, from Copenhagen, ½ page in-4, front of envelope retained. "Excuse this hastily scribbled note on an ugly piece of paper, but I don't want to wait to tell you how happy and relieved I am to hear [sic] that dear Jacqueline is out of danger. Please tell her. You must have suffered terribly, but there are always compensations for such sufferings. You will see. "11. 03.01.1952, autograph letter signed, 1 page in-12, front of envelope kept. Vows. He is working hard on a press.- 12. 09.12.1952 (postmark), autograph letter signed, 2 pages in-12, envelope front retained. He has received the book, but one photo is not as it should be. Book defect or defective copy?.- 13. 23.05.1954, autograph letter signed, 1 page 4°, envelope face retained. He has been hanging around to thank for the two fine books he received, but he has to finish a play, attack a novel "and so on to the end, since apparently I am in the world for that!"- 14. 27.10.1954 (date added in pencil), autograph letter signed, 3 ½ pages in-12. Always late to write to him, but undertakes too much. He asks Heyd if he can find him the reprint of Calvin's Institutions Chrétiennes which is to be published early next year by Labor et fides.../ Set of 14 letters.
