LEYRIS, Pierre (1907-2001), is a French translator from English. He has translated works by Shakespeare, Melville, T. S. Eliot, Yeats, Dickens, Stevenson, Hawthorne, de Quincey, Milton and Jean Rhys. His four-volume translation of the works of William Blake, published by Aubier and Flammarion, remains the most complete in French. Correspondence with Alain TRUTAT including 12 autograph letters signed in the 40s and 50s, of various sizes, but mostly in-8, in a small tight handwriting, and 11 prepaid postcards with the effigy of Marshal Pétain, back filled with the small handwriting of Leyris. It is a question of translation... But often the letters become familiar. This relationship goes from "Dear Sir" to "My little Alain". Thus, this letter which begins with these words: "20 J. What can I say to you, my little Alain. If I don't saw wood, I torch kids. If I don't torch the kids, I'll tear up the potatoes. If I'm not digging potatoes, I'm doing the dishes, if I'm not ... etc... ». The whole represents several tens of printed pages. Several envelopes kept.
