TISSOT [(Samuel)]. Onanism. Dissertation on the diseases pro - Lot 53
TISSOT [(Samuel)]. Onanism. Dissertation on the diseases produced by masturbation. Paris, Bossange, Masson et Besson, 1805, in-12, XXI-1 bl.-314 p., full contemporary brown calf, smooth spine decorated, red morocco title-piece (rubbed edges especially on the back cover, some brown spots). Samuel Auguste André David Tissot (1728-1797) was a Swiss physician. During his lifetime he was extraordinarily famous and was the appointed physician of many high-ranking European personalities, including the King of Poland and the Elector of Hanover. It has been said that he was "the physician of princes and the prince of physicians". His fame is due to his numerous works, especially those on onanism and his studies on epilepsy. The introduction to the book states that this edition has been enlarged by one third. A study of the development of this text since the original of 1761 has yet to be made.
