The precursor of the kibbutz and participatory housing - BRIANCOURT (M.). Visit to the phalanstery. P., Librairie phalanstérienne, 1848, in-16, 340 p., 1 folding plate, full green cloth, gilt title on the spine and the 1st plate (pale spots) (binding by Chabanne, Paris). Original edition. The phalanstery is an organic grouping of elements considered necessary for the harmonious life of a community called the phalanx. The concept, which was very popular in intellectual circles in the 19th century, was developed by Charles Fourier and promoted by idealistic industrialists like Jean-Baptiste André Godin. It is a group of dwellings organized around a central covered courtyard, a place of community life.
