"The Hard-boiled Egg. N° 6 (New Year 1922), 8 (March 1922), 10 (June 1932), 11 (November 1922), 12 (January 1923), 14 (Autumn 1923) of the 16 issues published. P., Impr. alençonnaise, 6 fasc. 8°, stapled, cover designed by Jean Cocteau (rouss. at the height of the staples, missing on the 2nd flat of n° 6). The magazine "L'Œuf dur" was founded by Georges Duveau (or Georges Duvau), Gérard Rosenberg, Pierre Villoteau and Jean Albert-Weil, quickly joined by Maurice David (who also wrote under the name of Jean-Pierre Lafargue). Gérard Rosenthal (also known by the pen name of "Francis Gérard"), cousin of Max Jacob, was the director. According to Gérard Rosenthal, the choice of title "testifies to our desire to break with the lyrical, elegiac, symbolist or romantic references [...] as generally adopted by young magazines and our desire to get to the heart of the matter. We find texts by Francis Carco, Blaise Cendrars, Jean Cocteau, Joseph Delteil, Pierre Drieu la Rochelle, Max Jacob, Pierre Mac Orlan, Paul Morand, Léon Pierre-Quint, Pierre Reverdy, André Salmon, Philippe Soupault, Pierre Naville or Mathias Lübeck (real name Robert Enoch).
