ANTONY (Maurice).
"James Ensor in his interior" (1937). Silver print bearing the photographer's stamp and some annotations on the back. Support and subject size : 17.8 x 23.7 cm (rubbed corners). Originally from Ypres, nephew of Constant Permeke, Maurice Antony became famous for his photos of the Yser front when, shortly after the First World War, he came to settle permanently in Ostend where Ensor, Permeke, Spilliaert, and a few other artists lived. It was always through photography that Antony came into contact with the Ostend intelligentsia and the Ostend art world to which James Ensor belonged.
