1/10th of a lead over Imperial Japan - SURVAGE - GREY (Roch). The Castle of the Red Pond. P., Stock, Delamain et Boutelleau, (1926), 8° at all margins, br., uncut, black half-box folder with small flaps, silver title on smooth back, bordered and pointed case (slipcase signed Devauchelle). Original edition printed at 213 copies, num. 1/10 copies of head on Imperial Japan containing 4 woodcuts in 3 colours by Léopold Survage. The Baroness of Oettingen, novelist, poet or painter under the pseudonym Roch Grey, Léonard Pieux or François Angiboult, held a salon at 229 Boulevard Raspail in Paris. One could see there Apollinaire, Picasso, Modigliani, the Russian and French avant-garde: Archipenko, Zadkine, Braque, Léger, Cendrars, Survage of which she was the lover... In the Russian Paris of the Belle Epoque, Hélène Miontchinska, married to Otto d'Oettingen, squandered her fortune and lived intensely. In 1919, she wrote her first novel "The Castle of the Red Pond", an account of her childhood in Russia. Very beautiful copy.
