GEORGES-ANQUETIL, Jules-Georges Anquetil dit (born in 1888 a - Lot 120
GEORGES-ANQUETIL, Jules-Georges Anquetil dit (born in 1888 and died on March 1st 1945 in Buchenwald), is a French lawyer who became a journalist, then press owner and publisher. In July 1921, he launched a new monthly satirical magazine, Le Grand Guignol pamphlétaire illustré, which lasted nearly eight years, distributed by Hachette, and which was undoubtedly his most enduring title. Anquetil had to interrupt it in February 1922 for trial, then continued it under the title Le Grand Guignol enchaîné. After being defeated in 1919 in the elections for the Paris City Council, Georges Anquetil ran in 1928 in the legislative elections in French Guyana under the galmotist label, but the local press revealed his criminal record: he had indeed been sentenced in 1922 and again in 1926 to prison and fines for various offences (extortion, insults, defamation). It is possible that, having had access to sensitive files, Anquetil demanded money in return for his silence, but nothing is certain. He founds his own editions and publishes his own books: "The Legitimate Mistress", "Satan leads the ball", etc. He also publishes his own books. Beautiful set partly sent from the infirmary of Fresne. Five cards and letters addressed to Jean-Bernard Passerieu, known as JEAN-BERNARD, lawyer and publicist (1858-1936). Founds the magazine L'Union littéraire at the age of eighteen; literary critic at L'Événement under the pseudonym of the "Bourgeois de Paris"; president of the Syndicat des Journaux de Langue française appearing abroad, etc. 1°: January 28, 1921: 2 pages 4° on letter paper of the "Courrier français", a "confidential" letter written from his bed, announcing that his two newspapers were dead. 2° : April 12, 1922 : 4 pages in-12 from the infirmary of Fresnes stay to treat his tuberculosis. On one page in small print, he lists his charges. 3°: 7 April 1929 from the infirmary of Fresnes, a "confidential" letter of 4 pages 8° in which he justifies himself at length. 4°: January 14, 1930, a headed card from "La Rumeur" written on both sides where he announces that his case will be settled and also announces the publication of a weekly magazine "La Comédie humaine"... 5°: 8 January 1930: 2 pages in-4° on paper from Georges-Anquetil Editions. Confidential" letter in which Georges-Anquetil asks Jean-Bernard to intervene with the Ministry so that they continue to pay his monthly subsidy... Very nice set of 1 card and 4 letters.
