Scapegoat. P., Imprimerie de la Vie moderne, 1889, large 8°, br., shirt in black half-chagrin, smooth back titled lengthwise (scattered stitches, small angular wet. at the last white f.). Original edition printed at 105 ex. num. 1/100 yard from Holland. Shipment : "to L.P. de Brinn' Gaubast / sympathetically / Saint Pol Roux". After having frequented the Parisian literary milieu, notably La Butte, a poetic cenacle of Montmartre, Louis Pilate dit Brinn' Gaubast was the main founder of the literary review La Pléiade. In 1890, the leaders of La Plume led a violent campaign against him for having stolen the drafts of "Lettres de mon moulin" when he was tutor to Alphone Daudet's youngest son.
