With 75 lithographed plates on Chine appliqué - ROTTIERS [colonel Bernard Eugène Antoine]. Monumens of Rhodes. Dedicated to His Majesty the King. Brussels, at Mrs. Vve Colinez, 1828, 4th oblong, 1 p. of title, 1 p. of table of contents, 75 plates numbered in Roman numerals (plates 27 and 28 inverted), half black basane with corners (worn and damaged rel., inner hinge split, marginal tears, margins showing freckles and wetness, plate 44 has been replaced by a flying lithograph). First edition comprising 75 lithographs on Chine appliqué by H. Delpierre after drawings by P.J. Witdoeck, 8 of them enhanced with watercolours. This admirable work proposes a map of the island of Rhodes, views of the port, fortifications, buildings, some of them in ruins, details of colour frescoes, etc. Colonel Rottiers (1771-1857) carried out several archaeological missions in Greece, in close collaboration with the Dutch government. The antiquities brought back enriched the collections of the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden. Fresh lithographs.
