Letters to an absentee. Paris 1870 - 1871. P., Lemerre, 1871, in-12, full midnight blue morocco, spine with 5 threaded ribs decorated with gilt boxes, gilt fillets, corner motifs and fleurons, flats set with a double gilt fillet for framing, set of 4 fillets and 2 gold beaded fillets forming a hexagonal figure, with gilded corner motifs in small irons, double gilded fillets on the cups, red morocco countertops set with a floral garland, gilded fillets and dots, double guard in burgundy moiré reps and marbled paper, gilded edges, couv. and back cover, ex-libris HBS (Lortic fils binding). Original ed. for this set of letters on the Commune by Alphonse Daudet, published immediately under the Second Republic. Very nice copy superbly made by Lortic Fils.
