REINESIUS (Thomas). Variarum lectionum libri III priores [...]. Adjecti indices neceffarii... Altenburg, Otto Michael, 1640, 4°, [20]-694-[64] p., full vellum of the period (burnished paper due to its poor quality). Good copy. Thomas Reinesius (1587-1667), a German scholar, he was physician to the Margrave of Bayreuth, and then adviser to the Elector of Saxony. He was retired by Louis XIV. He himself published "Variarum lectionum libri III priores" in 1640 and in this book gave brilliant proof of his vast knowledge and critical sense: not only did he improve a large number of passages in the most varied Greek and Latin languages, but also questions of epigraphy, history of literature, lexicography and others are thoroughly and meticulously discussed and resolved using the Eastern and Slavic languages as well. Rivius directed a violent attack against the "Variae lectiones" in his pamphlet "Lanx satura" / REINESIUS (Th[omas]). Ad viros clariss[imos] D. Casp Hoffinannum. Christ Ad. Rupertum Epistolae. Leipzig, Sumtibus Johannis Scheibii, 1660, 4°, frontispiece (portrait of the author), [8]-681 p., paintings, full vellum at the time. From the Nordkirschen library (ex-libris). (Burnished paper because of its poor quality) / Set 2 vol.
