SIM [José-Luis Rey Vila, says]. Estampas de la Revolution espanola 19 julio de 1936. Barcelona, Grafos, (1937), 4th oblong, spiral binding. Original edition including 30 full-page watercolor reproductions. Text in Spanish, French and English. This album is the best known pictorial work of the Spanish Civil War. Born in Cádiz, Rey Vila studied drawing at the School of Fine Arts of Cádiz and later in Barcelona. He works as a draughtsman and illustrator for Ford, and collaborates with art magazines such as "Nueva Iberia". In 1936, he put his "drawing" at the service of the social revolution. He produced a series of watercolours for the album "Prints of the Spanish Revolution July 19, 1936" for propaganda purposes. He then settled in Paris in a studio near the Buttes-Chaumont. After the liberation, he drew by signing his real name Rey Vila. His favourite themes are bulls, flamenco and Don Quixote. He travels in Europe and exhibits in Paris and Havana.
