[KAPLAN, Nelly] BELEN. Memories of a sheet reader. P., J.-J. - Lot 791
[KAPLAN, Nelly] BELEN. Memories of a sheet reader. P., J.-J. Pauvert, 1973, 8° at all margins, br., uncut. Originally edited 1/50 ex. on Japon mat, only large paper (ex. n° 1). The work was censored and banned from distribution. Nelly Kaplan, born April 11, 1931 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is a French writer and filmmaker. It was Henri Langlois who, in 1954, at a reception in homage to G. Méliès, introduced her to Abel Gance. Fifteen days after this meeting, she becomes his assistant and plays a small role in La Tour de Nesle (1954). She will also assist him for the films Magirama (1956) and Austerlitz (1960). That same year 1954, she met and befriended Théodore Fraenkel, André Breton's ex-disciple at Chaptal College and during the First World War (1914-1916) as a medical intern in Nantes. In 1955, she met Philippe Soupault, then in 1956, André Breton: the beginning of "a dazzling love affair".
