Invitation card for the very first exhibition of Marcel Broodthaers, at the Galerie Saint-Laurent in Brussels from Friday 10 to 25 April [1964]. Layout by Corneille Hannoset, printed on both sides of a sheet of glossy paper from fashion magazines already printed. Size: 25,2 x 33,5 cm (fine marg. stitching). Text: "I, too, have been wondering if I could sell something and be successful in life. I haven't been good at anything for a while now. I am forty years old... The idea of finally inventing something insincere crossed my mind and I immediately set to work. After three months, I showed my production to Ph. Edouard Toussaint, the owner of Galerie Saint-Laurent. But this is art," he said, "and I would gladly exhibit it all. All right," I replied. If I sell something he'll take 30%. These seem to be normal conditions. Some galleries take 75%. What's that? In fact, objects [...]. Because of the support used, each copy is different.
