P., Léon Vanier, 1891, 8° on all margins, half-basane maroquined English green with small corners, spine with 5 nerves, author, title, gilt fleurons and fillets, parchment cover and spine. (discharge to the guards). Original 1/12 ex. head number edition on Holland, only large paper. "Print copy", signed by the author. Annotation in pencil: belongs to Albert Mockel. Son of a diplomat, Stuart Merrill (N.Y., 1863 - Versailles, 1915) spent his childhood in Paris. After studies at Colombia College, he settled permanently in France in 1890. He was one of the theorists of symbolism. In 1892, he became co-literary director of the magazine "L'Ermitage". He was also the translator of several French poets and writers, such as Baudelaire, Aloysius Bertrand or Huysmans.
