This activity revolved around two major concerns: teaching and ancient history. Concerning the first, his major work, intended for teachers, remains known under the short title of "Traité des études". This text, which summarized the educational experiments carried out by Rollin and others, was highly regarded. For some, its theoretical influence extended to all the educational treatises of the 18th century, including the "Emile"; for others, the direct influence was limited to a few specific experiments. His other line of work was ancient history. A distinguished Latinist and Hellenist, Rollin wrote two monumental sums known as "Ancient History" and "Roman History.
