About the drawings of "Mains libres", Man Ray will say: "I always have a notebook and a feather by my bed, even when I travel. In the evening, before going to sleep, if an idea comes to mind, I make a drawing. And in the morning when I wake up, if I have dreamed, I immediately draw my dream. Many of the drawings of Les Mains Libres are dream drawings" (cfr Hugnet in his book "Pleins et déliés").
