"The Decorative Arts". Monthly magazine of contemporary art. - Lot 291
"The Decorative Arts". Monthly magazine of contemporary art. P., from October 1900 to June 1910, 19 vol. 4°, abundantly illustrated, ornate rel. edited after Henry van de Velde (rubbed caps, qqs traces of use, tomaison error on the backs, the album from July to December 1907 is soiled). Includes engravings and lithographs by Picart Le Doux, Steinlen, Rops, Legros, Roustan, Vibert, etc. "L'Art décoratif" (1898-1914) intended to support exclusively the development of international modern applied art, including its industrial dimension, inseparable from its social mission. In October 1900, the subtitle "Revue internationale d'art industriel et de décoration" became "Revue mensuelle d'art contemporain" until the end of 1906. Several changes also affect the review during this period: in 1902, L'Art décoratif absorbs La Revue des Arts décoratifs when its director, Victor Champier, is appointed to the National School of Industrial Arts in Roubaix. Shortly afterwards, Meier-Graefe handed over the direction of the periodical to Gustave Soulier in 1903. During this period, the magazine's international dimension diminished and it became more an expression of French national traditions. In 1907, Eugène Belville and Yvanhoé Rambosson took over the direction of the journal. While continuing to defend contemporary applied arts, the journal gave greater prominence to the art of the past and the history of art, which is well expressed in its new subtitle "Revue de la vie artistique ancienne et moderne" (Review of ancient and modern artistic life). Beautiful ensemble.
