In the name of Christophe Plantin's son-in-law - PLUTARQUE. Moral works, translated from Greek into French, reviewed and corrected in several passages by the translator. [...]. Paris, Adrian Perier, 1606, 2 vol. 4°, [15]-1 whites-757-[31] and [7]-1 whites-643-1 whites-11-1 whites p. (some pagination errors), 19th c. brown half calf with corners, spine ribbed, title and tomaison papers (1 flattened upper cap, restorations, dampenings on the very last pages of the 1st vol.). Book printed by François du Carroy as can be read at the end of the 1st vol. but under the sign of Adrian Perier, son-in-law of Christophe Plantin with the famous compass mark on the titles. Beautiful edition of the translation of Jacques Amyot who signs the dedicatory epistle. Rare (no copy at this address at the BnF; a quick search did not allow us to find another copy at Adrian Perier's address). Adrien Perier, of Calvinist faith. Former "postman" of the bookseller Abraham Pacard and brother of the bookseller Jérémie Périer. In 1596, married Madeleine Plantin (1599), daughter of the printer-librarian Christophe Plantin and widow of the bookseller Gilles Beys. Attends the Frankfurt fairs. Also said to have had a shop in the Palace of the States in The Hague. Died shortly before Feb. 1629. Well preserved copy.
